My name is Brittany, and I’m the creator of Salty Gaijin. I’m a long-time Christian and am currently living in Japan as a missionary and English teacher.
Who am i?
I grew up in a Christian home my whole life. However, my walk with Christ really came to life in college. I co-led my first bible study group with InterVarsity, and I finally attended a church on my own. It was at that time that I truly began to take deep ownership of my faith journey and relationship with God. I’m forever blessed and thankful for those days. It’s amazing how God can transform people so completely.
I also always had a strong interest in different cultures growing up. Maybe it’s because I moved around the U.S. all my life. Maybe it’s because I’m half-Mexican. It’s hard to say, honestly. In college, though, I decided to study Japanese on a whim and absolutely fell in love with it. With a double major in linguistics and Japanese, I had inadvertently acquired the perfect combination for teaching English in Japan.
However, it wasn’t until nearly 4 years after graduation that I would finally come to Japan to serve God as a missionary. Now here I am, 3.5 years later…loving God, serving the people of Japan, and wanting to help others with their own journey—Christian, Japanese, or otherwise.

Want to help me out?
I love providing free resources for people. As a Christian, I don’t want my service to be motivated by money. That’s not why I started Salty Gaijin. However, it does cost money to run a website and host a podcast.
I’d like to one day be able to work on Salty Gaijin full-time to provide better resources for Christians, missionaries, and expats in Japan. If you’d like to help my mission, please consider donating even just $5 to the cause (no strings attached)!
